F A S H I O N | MM6 takes NYFW

You don't understand how hyped I am right now.

Yesterday at 6. pm, my good friend Austin and I sat in anticipation waiting for my favorite designer to present his Autumn/Winter 2014 line at New York Fashion Week. Obviously, it was amazing. Sean Nicholas Savage opened for Margiela, performing his song She Looks Like You on a stage while the models walked out and surrounded him.

For those of you who may have never heard of Maison Martin Margiela, he is a Belgian designer who opened his first line in 1989 and graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He has a clean, minimal aesthetic and is very influential, but remains hidden. I have only seen one picture of him myself, but because of his private life, he is often called "Fashion's Invisible Man."

Margiela's color palette consisted of "Spritz Orange," which is  kind of like a red-orange, "Forest Green", "Star White", and black. What I liked most about his line was that he used interesting textures such as what looked like bubble wrap in a few of his garments. His line was minimal, but complex. Minimal shapes and ideas, but complex ideas put together. It also had some 90s minimalistic elements, but with a futuristic twist.

This is why Margiela is my favorite designer. He confuses me, but this makes me only want to understand it more. Who knows where his inspiration is drawn from, and who knows what he is going to think of next? Who even knows who this man is?
