F A S H I O N | MM6 takes NYFW

You don't understand how hyped I am right now.

Yesterday at 6. pm, my good friend Austin and I sat in anticipation waiting for my favorite designer to present his Autumn/Winter 2014 line at New York Fashion Week. Obviously, it was amazing. Sean Nicholas Savage opened for Margiela, performing his song She Looks Like You on a stage while the models walked out and surrounded him.

For those of you who may have never heard of Maison Martin Margiela, he is a Belgian designer who opened his first line in 1989 and graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He has a clean, minimal aesthetic and is very influential, but remains hidden. I have only seen one picture of him myself, but because of his private life, he is often called "Fashion's Invisible Man."

Margiela's color palette consisted of "Spritz Orange," which is  kind of like a red-orange, "Forest Green", "Star White", and black. What I liked most about his line was that he used interesting textures such as what looked like bubble wrap in a few of his garments. His line was minimal, but complex. Minimal shapes and ideas, but complex ideas put together. It also had some 90s minimalistic elements, but with a futuristic twist.

This is why Margiela is my favorite designer. He confuses me, but this makes me only want to understand it more. Who knows where his inspiration is drawn from, and who knows what he is going to think of next? Who even knows who this man is?

B E A U T Y & H E A L T H | coo coo for coconut

Coconuts are a magic fruit and produces my favorite oil and I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat. It's great for cooking as an alternative for other cooking oils, it's good for your skin and cuticles, and your hair loves it too. I have learned to use this magic oil from my mom, where in the Philippines they make their own. She used to massage it into my scalp before I go to bed to help get rid of my dandruff. Now I use it daily for my hair, particularly in these harsh winter months when my hair gets especially dry.

Intake of coconut oil can also help with blood sugar, lowers cholesterol, gets rid of yeast/yeast infections, is a good lotion for extremely dry skin or chapped lips, and can even improve weightloss if consumed everyday. There are so many uses for coconut oil, or any part of the coconut. It truly is a fruit of health and beauty in one.

B E A U T Y & H E A L T H | nail day

Today is Saturday, which usually means maintence day. After my workout at the gym and missing my appointment at the Writing Commons, I came back to the dorm for breakfast, a shower, and to take care of my eyebrows and (yes, they're real) nails. In place of my regular nudes, whites, and greys, I chose this soft lilac color which was a Christmas gift and is one of my favorite nail varnish colors. I felt that this was somewhat appropriate to wear to welcome the new spring season (although it's still only February) while still keeping a cool undertoned color for winter. I sealed it off with my new OPI matte top coat for a soft dull finish.

A B O U T | newborn to the blogger world.

I'm new to this blogging thing. I decided to start a blog as I found myself occasionally keeping myself up at night with constant thoughts and ideas and I wanted to build a home for these ideas instead of the usual venting on Twitter, etc. As this being my first blog post (everrrrr), I guess I'll start out by briefly introducing myself.

My name is Michelle Justiniani Carr and I attend Kent State University in Ohio and I am currently a freshman studying Fashion Design. I am originally from Portland, Oregon but wanted to get away from home and start anew. I felt I was too constrained living at home and wanted to be free. In my free time I like to draw, design, sew, along with other hobbies. I hope one day that I will be successful and be a recognized designer. Although I'm in college and have declared my major, I am still trying to figure myself out in a sense. Who I want to be, and what exactly it is that I want to do. I would like to think that I have my like figured out, but I don't know if I ever will. If you knew me, my blogger name speaks for itself--I'm very indecisive. Things need to go through check after check until I finally feel satisfied to move on, thus coming up with modify mi. This could be as complex as constructing a prom dress out of white leather and chiffon to purchasing deodorant in your local Target.

As for now, I am in my dorm room listening to James Blake Radio on Pandora while my roommate is in New York for the weekend at Fashion Week (hella jealous. take me with you next time pls), typing a blog post instead of typing a scholarship that is due in about 3 weeks, or an English paper also due in 3 weeks. I've declined in writing over the years and thought this would be a good start to pick it back up while expressing my mind kind of like a less-personal online diary. I hope you enjoy for what I have to offer very soon.
